America’s Most Famous Ranch
For 300 episodes, the story of the Ewing family captivated viewers on the television sets. It was about family life, power and oil – and for 13 years, the Southfork Ranch in Parker, TX was the home of the fictional family clan.
Still, more than 30 years after the shows’ credits rolled for a final time, tens of thousands flock to what is probably the most well-known property in the United States. In fact, Southfork Ranch is one of the most-visited tourist attractions in all of Dallas.
In 1985, the ranch was taken over and gradually transformed into a pilgrimage site for Ewing aficionados. Its previous owners weren’t all that enthusiastic about the crowds of curious TV tourists.
Even though the interior of the ranch was filmed on a sound stage and not inside the ranch house, the actual premises were later modeled after the studio version. It’s where you will find numerous props that are put on display, including the famous revolver that was used to shoot JR Ewing in what some would consider to be one of the meanest cliffhangers in television history.
If you get nostalgic feelings when you think about the cult TV show, then you should definitely take a trip to the ranch. Southfork Ranch Museum is open to visitors Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 am to 4 pm.
