Staten Island’s Only General Museum
One of Staten Island’s oldest cultural institutions, the eponymous Staten Island Museum features exciting exhibits about the art, history, and natural science of the surrounding region.
Bein an interdisciplinary museum, it currently boasts a comprehensive collection on the subjects of natural science, as well as various pieces of historical art.
During your visit you’ll be treated to works by artists such as Marc Chagall and Andy Warhol, as well as several exhibitions focusing on the history of Staten Island. These include the Fine Art Center, which showcases paintings, sculptures, and photographs related to the region, as well as the Natural Science Center, which presents the natural history of Staten Island. Oh, and don’t forget to explore the large historical library!
Established in 1881 by a group of citizens to promote the arts and culture, the Staten Island Museum is the only public museum on the Staten Islands. Throughout history, the museum has been regularly expanded and remodeled to provide more space for its ever-increasing visitor numbers.
Visitors of all ages can marvel at more than 500,000 biological preparations, as well as a large collection of documents, pictures and sculptures.
