Overview
Formerly known as the National D-Day Museum, the World War II Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana, is a military history museum, which focusses on telling the story of the second world war and those brave American soldiers who fought in it.
The museum’s location in Louisiana is no accident – the landing boats used by the U.S. military to storm the beaches of Normandy were built in New Orleans. A restored LCVP (or “Higgins Boat”) can be visited on the museum’s campus. With only ten original boats remaining in existence, special care was taken by former Higgins employees to restore the landing craft to its former glory.
