The History of Coke
Yes, it is true! Atlanta, Georgia, is the birthplace of Coca Cola – one of the most successful beverage brands in the entire world. There is simply no other name in the business, that is as recognizable as that of Coca Cola and its iconic glass bottles and red cans.
As with every success story, there’s plenty of background to it. It had to have started somewhere after all.
But every success story has its beginning somewhere. In the World of Coca Cola you can delve deeper into the matter. It all started with John Pemberton, who patented the original Coca-Cola recipe on June 6, 1887, at that time still used as a medicine for headaches.
But Pemberton could not enjoy his breakthrough for long, because due to his cocaine addiction, he sold two-thirds of his shares to businessman Asa Griggs Candler just a few days later. This ultimately laid the foundation for making the Coca Cola brand what it is today.
In 1892, Griggs Candler founded what is now the Coca-Cola Company, based in Atlanta, Georgia. By 1895, the drink was available in stores across the Union. As early as 1896, the company was also supplying the foreign market – the success story of Coca Cola began.
