Overview
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of injured, sick or orphaned marine animals. The aquarium works closely with other organizations and authorities to rescue animals in distress and provide them with the medical attention and care they need. Commonly rescued animals include dolphins, sea turtles, manatees and various species of birds.
One of the most famous residents of the CMA is the dolphin named Winter. Winter lost much of her tail in a trap and was rescued by the CMA. She received a custom-made prosthetic tail fin that drew worldwide attention. Winter’s story was told in the film “A Dolphin Tale” and its sequel, leading to even greater publicity for the CMA.
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium offers a variety of exhibits and experiences that allow visitors to experience marine life up close. These include dolphin encounters, stingray touch pools, interactive sea turtle exhibits and more.
The CMA is actively involved in conservation and works to preserve the marine environment. The aquarium works to educate the public about the effects of pollution, climate change and other threats to marine life. It also advocates for sustainable practices and the protection of natural habitats.
