Enshrined Forever
Built in honor of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, the Lincoln Memorial has become one of the most visited landmarks in the United States.
Constructed in the style of Greek Doric temple, inside sits the statue of Lincoln, striking a contemplating pose. An inscription above his head reads “In this temple, as in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the Union, the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever.”
The immense interior space is adorned with further inscriptions, specifically those of Lincoln’s most significant speeches and writings. Especially the words of the Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural Address resonate through the ages, and serve as a reminder of the struggles and triumphs that shaped the American nation.
Visiting the Lincoln Memorial is not just an architectural experience; it is a pilgrimage to honor the memory of a remarkable leader. It serves as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, one person can make a profound difference and leave an indelible mark on history.
