Telling the Story of Walt Disney
One man, lots of history. To do it justice, the Walt Disney Family Museum emerged in San Francisco, California, dedicated solely to the history and legacy of Walt Disney. Opened in 2009 by the Disney family, the museum is housed in the former Presidio Army Base.
The entire story of Walt’s life is presented in chronological order. Your curiosity and thirst for knowledge can be quenched with artifacts, pictures, models, sketches and animations.
The museum’s exhibitions include:
- Walt’s first film project, Laugh-O-Gram, produced in 1921
- A replica of Walt Disney’s office, including his desk and personal belongings
- A collection of Oscars and other awards that Walt Disney has received throughout his career
- A giant scale model landscape depicting Disney’s groundbreaking film “Fantasia”
- Animations and sketches from many popular Disney films, including “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”, “Bambi”, “Dumbo”, “Pinocchio” and “Cinderella”
- An original storyboard from Disney’s last film, The Sword in the Stone
The museum also offers a variety of events and activities, including film screenings, workshops, lectures, and family programs. It’s a must-see for all Disney fans and anyone interested in the history of the animated film industry.
